Salisbury Steak - Hungry Man Dinner Remake
These Hungry Man Salisbury Steak dinners have sure gotten me through some hard times, y'all. Shannon will tell you that I still sometimes grab these out the freezer at the grocery store from time to time. These TV dinners take you back to a time where you'd set up a tray in front of the TV and watch some good classic sitcoms, like I Love Lucy and Sanford & Son. Today, we're going to show you how to make everything in this here meal and it's going to be really simple and really easy.
The Star of the Show
We are using us about a pound and a half of some certified Angus 80/20 ground beef. We're going to add some Original Seasoning, dry mustard, a squirt of ketchup, a little smoked paprika, some Worcestershire and 2 well beaten eggs. Mix it up a little and get the plain bread crumbs ready.
We appreciate you sharing our recipes with your friends and family!
Tip: Wet hands with water before handling the ground beef to keep it from stickin' to your hands.
Add the breadcrumbs and squash it up and if you need a little more, add a little more. It's kind of like making biscuits. You want to add enough so it binds with the eggs and stays all together. Now, give it 30 minutes to set in the ice box.
Soppin' Good Gravy
Take one pound of white mushrooms and a big white onion. Get yourself a cast iron skillet or a Dutch oven deep enough to hold all this deliciousness that is about to happen. Melt some butter and add a dab of oil in there. Once you've got it good and hot, add those mushrooms and onions and listen to that sizzle when they hit the butter. Go on and cook it down until the onions are translucent and the mushrooms are a beautiful golden brown.
Tip: Stir about six tablespoons of flour until the ingredients are well coated. This will help thicken up the gravy as it cooks.
To finish it off just right, we are gonna add some red wine, about a tablespoon or two. Then a splash of Worcestershire sauce and let it boil until it thickens. Once it is good and thick, transfer it to a heat-proof bowl.

Sizzle Up the Meat
Now get those meat patties out of the ice box and separate them into about six oval shaped patties. Take the pan you made the gravy in, and add two tablespoons of butter. Once the iron is hot and the butter is sizzling add the patties.
Cook two to three minutes on each side until the patties get a good brown color all over.
Time to pour that gravy right on top over those patties. Lift them up just a tad and get some of that good soppin' gravy on underneath each one of them. Simmer on low for a good while.
Get them Green Beans on to Goin'
Get you some good fresh or frozen green beans. Start with about five pieces of good chopped thick-cut bacon sizzling and then throw those green beans in there on top. Add the chicken broth in – just enough to cover them - and add some more of that Original Seasoning. Cook them until they get like that guy that drove through the hailstorm – Al Dente. Add some butter and juuuuust a little drop of liquid smoke. That stuff is delicious but as potent as snake venom so be careful.
Put together the Salisbury steak, the green beans, the mashed taters and brownie. Folks, this was easy and this was good. You are going to love this meal so much you'll do the he-man hungry man dance. Check out the recipe below and keep coming back every week for a new cowboy style recipe!
