Caramelized onions, sour cream, Duke’s mayo, and a little cream cheese make one mighty fine French onion dip. This is not the packet kind, folks. Slow down and let those onions get sweet, then stir them into this creamy goodness. Put it on chips, a baked potato, or stir it into scalloped potatoes.

This homemade French onion dip gets plenty of rich flavor from slowly caramelized onions. Serve it with your favorite dippers, spoon it over a baked potato, or mix it into scalloped potatoes.

4 tablespoons butter
1 sweet onion, white onion, or purple onion, diced small
Worcestershire sauce, to taste
1/3 cup Sour cream
1/3 cup Duke’s mayonnaise
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon onion powder, or to taste
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste

Directions

Melt the butter in a skillet over low heat. Add the diced onion and cook slowly for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring as needed, until the onions are soft, golden, and caramelized.
Stir in Worcestershire sauce. Remove the onions from the skillet and let them cool to room temperature.
In a bowl, combine sour cream, Duke’s mayonnaise, softened cream cheese, onion powder, cayenne, black pepper, garlic powder, and Original Seasoning.
Fold in the cooled caramelized onions and mix well.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Serve with chips, on baked potatoes, or mixed into scalloped potatoes.
